Some important doctrines
Atonement
In the Bible, we see God's consistent plan of salvation which He offers the world as a solution to the curse pronounced upon the earth after the sin in the Garden of Eden. That plan means that God's Son was totally human because of his birth from Mary, but clothed with God's nature because of His descent from the Father, and full of God's power because of His anointing with the Holy Spirit. But He was tempted in all points as we are, yet without sin. And so, in spite of His human nature, He conquered sin in the flesh. In spite of His sinlessness, He then offered Himself up as a guilt offering, by dying on the cross and has become the means of salvation for all who are 'in Him'. Amongst other things, to be 'in Him' means entering into the new covenant in his blood by being baptised in his name, upon confession of one's faith. It also involves regularly sharing symbolically in His 'flesh and blood' by partaking of bread and wine at 'His supper'. It also means: living as He would have done in our place, and so showing as it were His face to our friends and acquaintances. To live like this is our joy: the joy of faith.
Christ's return
God's plan also includes the second coming of Christ to rule the world. We are looking forward to His return which we believe is imminent (though no-one can know the exact time). The restoration of the state of Israel, which our brethren in the past most certainly believed in, is for us who saw it happen, the evidence that the current state of affairs is approaching its end. We are looking forward to the resurrection of the dead and judgement, whereby all who are or who were 'in Christ' (including people from Old Testament times) will receive eternal life in order to reign with Christ for a thousand years over a world better than this present one. We share this hope with the Apostle Paul, who referred to it as the "Hope of Israel". We also believe that the people of Israel, who in spite of everything are still God's people, will play an important role in that new Kingdom.
Personal responsibility
We believe that everyone is personally responsible to God and Christ. It is only personal faith that can save a person from death. Such a faith means that a person keeps to Gods Word as the only revealed source of belief, that he keeps the commandments of Christ and as far as possible tries to follow Christ's example, and that his decision to follow Christ is expressed in his confession of faith at his baptism, and by being immersed as a symbol of his being buried and raised with Christ. He then needs to see his life after baptism as an 'education' - a training in living with God, so that soon, after Christ's return, he can be a useful servant in His Kingdom.
